One car-free commute

Replace one commute with cycling, walking, public transport or carpooling during the week. One trip. Not the whole week, and not forever.

Why only one

We made the challenge small on purpose. Promising one trip is easier than promising a new habit, and you can do it without rearranging your week. The challenge is free.

Who can take part

Anyone who commutes to a workplace in Norway. Your employer does not need to have bought anything from us.

You do not need Lerka to take part

Pick the day, tell a colleague and change the trip. That is the whole challenge. If you want your trip to count towards the number we publish afterwards, you can register it with us.

How to register your trip

  1. Sign inGo to lerka.app/min and enter your email address. You get a sign-in link by email, and you need neither a password nor an invitation. The link lasts fifteen minutes, so ask for a new one if it has expired.
  2. Tell us how you travel todayThe app takes you through four short steps. First three tick boxes about notifications, location and statistics, and all three are off until you tick them yourself. Then we ask how you travel to work today, and which postcode you live in. Without those answers we have nothing to measure your days against. You are also asked about your workplace, but you can leave that field empty.
  3. Register the dayRegister the trip on the same day if you can. If you do not get round to it, you will find the two previous days under History in the app. You cannot register days older than that.

Take part

Are you an employer?

You do not have to buy anything to take part. Send your staff a short text about the challenge and you are under way. The text is ready below, and you do not need to ask us for it. If you would rather take it over email, we answer at post@lerka.app

The text you can send your staff

Ready to paste into an email or a Teams message. It is written in your voice, not ours, and the only thing you need to fill in is who your staff should ask.

Subject: One car-free commute, 16 to 22 September Hi, EUROPEANMOBILITYWEEK runs from 16 to 22 September, and we are taking part in a challenge that is deliberately small: replace one commute with cycling, walking, public transport or carpooling during the week. One trip. Not the whole week, and not forever. You can take part without registering anywhere: pick the day, tell a colleague, and change the trip. If you want your trip counted in the number published after the week, here is how: 1. Go to lerka.app/min?sprak=en and sign in with your email address. You get a link back, and you need neither a password nor an invitation. The link lasts fifteen minutes, so ask for a new one if it expires. 2. Answer a few short questions about how you travel today. Without them Lerka has nothing to compare your numbers against. You will be asked for the postcode where you live, and whether you want notifications and location switched on. All three are off until you tick them yourself, and the app works the same if you leave them off. You will also be asked about your workplace, and you can leave that field empty. 3. Register the day. Do it the same day if you can: you can register today and the two days before, which you find under Your history in the app. After that the window is closed. On lerka.app you can also work out what your own commute costs you over a year, in kroner and in hours. Choose the tab for yourself in the calculator. That calculation is open to everyone and needs no sign-in. On privacy, and this part is worth reading: the account is yours alone. We as your employer have bought nothing from Lerka, and we get no report, no list and no notice of who is taking part, or whether anyone is. Along the way Lerka asks whether you want to be counted in statistics for an employer who buys a measurement. If you say yes, that employer sees only groups of at least five, never you. If you say no, everything works exactly the same. Lerka may also ask whether they may contact us about measuring, and that is entirely up to you. Taking part is voluntary, it costs nothing, and you can stop whenever you want. Lerka's privacy policy is at lerka.app/personvern. The section covering the app is in Norwegian only. Questions go to [your contact person here].

Who is behind this

Lerka is a Norwegian company that sells commuting measurements to employers. We registered this action ourselves, and we say so here rather than let you find out. The challenge is free, and you can take part without using Lerka at all. If you use the app and register several green days, we may ask whether we can contact your employer about measuring. You decide, and a no has no consequences.

MOBILITYACTION, registered with EUROPEANMOBILITYWEEK at mobilityweek.eu

The action is listed in the public MOBILITYACTIONS register at EUROPEANMOBILITYWEEK, so you can check that it exists rather than take our word for it. The entry means we have registered an action in an open register. It does not mean anyone has assessed our tool.

What we publish afterwards

One number, and how it breaks down: how many days were registered, and by which mode of travel. We count the day once, never the trip out and the trip home separately. It is a count of registered days. It is not an estimate of car trips avoided, and we say so when we publish, together with the method.

About privacy

The account is yours alone. Your employer gets no list, no summary and no notice of who is taking part, or whether anyone is. Along the way we ask whether you want to be counted in the statistics of an employer who buys a measurement. If you say yes, that employer sees only groups of at least five, never you. If you say no, everything works exactly the same.
